Mahendra Memorial Academy Duhabi Sunsari, often referred to as MMA, is a profitable English Medium School under the Company Act of Nepal. It is located in Duahbi Sunsari Koshi Province, 13 kilometres north of Biratnagar and 12 kilometers south of Itahari. It is named after the king, the name and memory of Late King Mahendra.
MMM is a private, coeducational, college-preparatory day school serving nearly 2000 students in grades Nursery through twelve. Recognized and approved by the Education Ministry of Nepal and Private and Boarding School’s Association of Nepal, seeks academic excellence and strives to form the society, minds, and hearts, of its students in the likeness of common culture and civilization of Nepal. It is situated on a 8 kattha of land in prime location, the school provides a rigorous liberal arts curriculum with challenging school preparatory, honors, and Advanced Placement classes utilizing both coeducational (high school) ,single-gender (middle school) instruction and primary with pre primary childrens. The school’s fresh and clear environment helps to create a joyful, child-centered school in which students can learn and grow. MMA also offers more than 50 co-curricular activities, including athletics and fine arts, as well as academic, leadership, service, and personal enrichment clubs and organizations.

HISTORY

Mahendra Memorial Academy was established in 1982. The first batch of students took the School Leaving Certificate Examination (the national exam that is equivalent to the British O level) in 1994. In 1995, English was made the official language of instruction at MMA. In 1910, +2 Programs has been started in two faculty; Management and education.

ACADEMICS

    The school operates three courses of study:
  • School Leaving Certificate level (a nationwide curriculum up to class 10 prescribed by the Department of Education of Nepal),
  • 10+2 Level (Higher Secondary Education Board of Nepal, an equivalent alternative to A-Level).

Students must pass an entrance exam to gain admission into the school. Normally, entrance examinations are taken for entry into class 1 and post SLC levels (Grade-11). This is intended to continue the high academic status of the school.

GOVERNANCE


The school is managed under the School Management Committee (SMC) and it is responsible for the formulation, implementation, and monitoring of all policy-level matters. The Principal takes care of the day-to-day administration with the help of Acting Principals, co-ordinator, four In- charges, Chief Administrative Officer and a team of Senior Management Team (SMT). The present principal of the school is Mr. Nishchal Raj Shakya. There is currently Asst. Principal in the school; Mr. Ramesh Babu Thapa and also, the Council of School Prefects acts as the student body, with the School head boy and head girl, captain leading it.

DISCIPLINE:

Students are required to adhere to the disciplinary norms of the school/college. It is important for all students to realize that education is for serious individuals who are interested in enhancing their career prospects. Therefore, upon recommendation from the school the education department has the authority to permanently debar a student if they violate disciplinary norms of the school. All day-to-day disciplinary matters are, however, the responsibility of the school.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS:

• It is mandatory for each student to wear STUDENT IDENTITY CARD during the school hours as well as his/her travel in the school bus. Non-compliance of it will invite a fine of Rs. 100/- (Two Hundred) each time. In case of loss/damage or change of card(s) due to some amendment, a written request signed by the parent and through the class teacher should be submitted immediately to the Discipline In-charge through the class teacher for issuance of the Card on payment of Rs.200/- (Two Hundred). It is compulsory to deposit back the Student and Parent Photo Identity Cards to the Class Teacher at the end of the session.
• All students must come to the school on time. The late comers will not be allowed to enter the school.
• Every student must have at least 80% attendance to appear in the Half Yearly or the Annual Examination. Those who fail to fulfill these criteria will be debarred. Request from the defaulter in this regard will not be entertained. However, a prize for maximum attendance is awarded on the basis of the total attendance in an academic year.
• No student will be allowed t o leave the school campus during the school hours. However, in case of emergency, the parent/authorised guardian as per "Parent's Declaration" should come to the school with an application explaining the reason to take the ward. If the Principal/ VicePrincipal/Headmistress is satisfied with the explanation, the ward may be allowed to go.
5. Transfer Certificate will not be issued until and unless all dues of the school are settled. Any request for Transfer Certificate must be made at least one month in advance, ailing which the fee for one month may be charged.
6. The medium of conversation in the school premises should be strictly English.
7. The bell before the assembly is a signal for the students to go to assembly. As soon as they are back in their classes, the students should get their books and notebooks ready for the first period. They should also maintain perfect discipline.
8. Change of classroom between periods should be done in silence and in an orderly manner.
9. Boys should get their hair cut at regular intervals. Colouring/dyeing hair and wearing of ear pins/rings are strictly prohibited. Girls should either cut their hair short/neatly tie in plaits. A fine of Rs.100/- will be imposed in case of non-compliance.
10. Shouting or whistling, running, talking in/around corridor or the school building is not allowed.
11. Students must move in an orderly manner while they are moving in the school premises.
12. Students are not allowed to bring personal sports equipments to school.
13. Other than textbooks or library books, no books, magazines or papers should be brought to the school without prior permission of the Principal.
14. It is not advisable to bring to school valuable articles like expensive watches, fountain pens, transistors, radios, tape recorders, cameras, mobile phone or any electronic gadgets and jewellery etc. The school is not responsible for any article lost. Lending or borrowing of money or valuable articles is strictly prohibited. In case of any loss, the school will not be responsible. 6 The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
15. Care must be taken of the school property and no one is allowed to scratch or spoil the desks and chairs or damage any school furniture, write or draw anything on the walls or in any way damage any article belonging to others.
16. Damage done even by accident or mistake should be reported immediately to the class captain or to the Principal/Vice-Principal/Headmaster/Headmistress.
17. Any damage done to the school property will be made good by the concerned student together with fine money imposed for such an offence.
18. Any student who notices something damaged should report to the teacher even if he/she does not know who has done it.
19. No student should bring any weapon or sharp articles like scissors, knife, cutter, steel/metal bangle etc. to the school.
20. Almanac to be used only for noting homework and instructions & not for subject notes.
21. No student is allowed to come to school in self driven vehicle. No student is allowed to enter/come to school on a motorcycle or scooter. Students coming to school by bicycle should refrain from double or triple riding. Students must not ride the bicycle in the school compound.
22. Students who come to school under the care of guardians/servants/riksha pullers should never leave the school before they arrive to take them back. In case of delay, they should report to the school office.
23. Those who commute alone must never roam around on the way but return to home straight without delay.
24. Students are warned not to buy any eatable from the street vendors.
25. Students should be very polite wherever they go. They should always remember that the school is judged by their behavior and conduct. Use of abusive language/passing filthy or vulgar comments will invite stern action immediately.
26. All students should greet their teachers whenever they meet them. No student should use any foul language against any teacher, visitor or guest of the school.
27. The school reserves the right to terminate any student whose progress in studies in unsatisfactory or whose conduct is a bad example for other children.
28. Bringing fireworks/bursting or extending any kind of support for exploding crackers or splashing water or colour or flying kite in the school premises or outside in the vicinity of the school is strictly prohibited, even during festival time. Non-compliance of these instructions can result in expulsion from the school.
29. During periods no student is allowed to leave the class without valid outpass. Movements outside the class in 1st,4th,5th and 8th periods is not allowed.
30. All school appointees should wear their respective badges daily.
31. Students must come to school in neat and clean uniform only. This rule applies even when they come to school for any purpose other than attending class or even after school hours. Scribbling on uniform or its improper wearing is punishable.
32. It is compulsory for students to wear lab coat/apron during practical periods in Chemistry/Bio- Lab., otherwise student(s) will not be allowed to do practical and simultaneously a fine of Rs. 100/- will be imposed.
33. Photograph in school uniform only will be accepted for attestation, in Identity Card or in the School Bulletin.
34. No student is allowed to visit the canteen during the teaching periods.
35. For availing the services of Medical Room, a student is supposed to get written permission (except in exigency) from the concerned Subject/Class Teacher. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
36. Any kind of gathering/celebration in the classroom/canteen or anywhere in or around school campus is not allowed.
37. Bullying is strictly prohibited inside the school premises and no such act will be spared.
38. Students must submit acknowledgment/ consent form/ class assignment/ assessment or any other proforma to the concerned in-charge within the stipulated period.
39. Applying Nail Paints/Nail Art/Tatoos/Heena is not allowed.
40. Students should be watchful of their behavior and gestures when in the school premises.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR TEACHERS:

Teachers are expected to respect their code of ethics and execute their duties accordingly, more than anybody else engaged in educational activities. Teachers should be role models to their students and other members of the community. Teachers and other education staff in this school shall have the following duties:
1. Fulfill obligations on attendance, punctuality and lesson preparation. If absent or late for a given reason, you will immediately notify the principal or other designated person.
2. Conscientiously prepare lessons, assess students’ work fairly and promptly and cooperate with other teachers and education personnel. Interact with students, colleagues, parents and community members in an appropriate manner.
3. Rigorously avoid actions or gestures that violate human rights and could harm students, such as:
• Sexual harassment and sexual violence, including suggestive words, gestures or comments as well as physical and psychological abuse.
• Excessive and inappropriate disciplinary action, including the use or threat of corporal punishment and demeaning and abusive words or actions.
4. Employ different participatory teaching techniques to make sure that the teaching approach also includes student-centred approaches.
5. Properly use the educational facilities of the school and encourage students to do so.
6. Attend and give constructive comments at meetings organized to discuss the teaching-learning process.
7. Ensure that textbooks, teaching aid materials, etc. are properly handled to ensure lasting and sustainable usage. Support and encourage students, to avoid missing classes and dropping out of school.
8. Properly discharge his/her teaching duty, assist students who need extra support through tutorial classes and advise students who have dropped out to resume their studies.
The school/college has zero tolerance for any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse. “Violence against children committed in schools”- refers to a single act or a series of acts committed by school administrators, academic and non-academic personnel against a child which result in, or is likely to result in physical, sexual, psychological harm or suffering, or other abuses including threats of such acts, battery, assault, coercion, harassment or arbitrary deprivation of liberty. Failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action including suspension or termination of employment.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR VISITORS:

We welcome to the parents/guardians and other patrons of the community to visit in our school. All visitors are required to follow the following guidelines:
1. All visitors must report to security guard before proceeding to the school premises and must receive authorization from the school principal or his/her designee.
2. Visitors to the schools must respect the learning environment and maintain proper behavior and decorum.
3. All visitors are supposed to be appropriately attired. Disruption of the orderly process of the school is prohibited.
4. The principal or his/her designee is authorized to deny access, ban or bar future access, remove or request the removal of any visitor whose behavior is disruptive to the educational/working environment of the school.
5. Visitors to the school must present themselves to the school office with proper identification.
6. All security codes should be adhered to and abide by visitors.

PHYSICAL PLANNING

MMA has taken initiative towards acquiring land for the college and is hoping to construct its own building in the near future. For detailed physical facilities and fixed assets.
LAND AND BUILDING
MMA has a plan to acquire at least a bigha of land for the Purposes of teaching learning process. At present the school has acquired a 0-08-00 bigha of land with four floor buildings constructed on it. One of the three buildings is being used as Administrative block, Academic block and Library and laboratory.

CLASS ROOMS

There are 44 classrooms of size 16’ x 26’ (area 416 sq feet) ready for use.

ROOMS REQUIRED FOR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF


There are 5 rooms of different sizes for the Purposes of administration. The rooms will be used as per required.
FACULTY ROOM
Three rooms are allotted for Faculties with enough space for their cademic related works and other works.
COMPUTER LAB
Two rooms are used for computer laboratory of size 16’ x 26’ which will have adequate space to accommodate 60 computers. The room has all facilities like electricity internet connection etc.
LIBRARY
There is a well-furnished library. There are sufficient curricula, books (text and reference books), journals, manuals and guides related to the subjects mentioned in the course structure of the curriculum. The books suggested by the curriculum will be purchased on a priority basis. There will be a trained librarian. The library will be open from 6 AM to 2 PM. All course books are available in the library. 50 percent of the course books for additional reference are available in the library. Other additional materials are; newspaper, magazines, journals and reference resource materials for the library.

PLAYGROUND
An area of about 7200 sq feet is reserved for the Purposes of playground which will have a basket ball court and the sports facility.
HOSTEL
A two storied building is leased at present for the Purposes of Hostel. It is within the plan of school to construct a building with enough place and facility for the Purposes of hostel.
MEETING HALL
A meeting hall of size 20'x40' (800 sq.ft.) is to be constructed within a year that will serve the Purposes of college. The hall will be used for board of directors meeting as well as for students meeting and college meeting.
